The blessing of God to families and generations to come, usually come through the fathers. In fact, even when fathers think they are just blessing their children (like in the case of Noah in Genesis 9:25 – 27), God honours it.
Blessings are the transgeneration gifts of fathers to their children.
No wonder when God was done with the creation of man, He needed to bless them as a Father.
However, I have discovered from Gen 9:25 27 that fathers can never bless their children beyond the level of their own effectiveness as fathers. Just like the saying goes, "yes cannot give what you don’t have".
Ham was cursed, so also his children. Shem was blessed, and his descendants were too.
But the point is this, fathers are the vehicles of transgeneration blessings and curses. A cursed father will necessary transfer curses to his children as a matter of rule.
Bring it to spiritual leadership; a spiritual leader is only as blessed as his father in the ministry or leadership.
Really, spiritual fathers ought to be given by God to His servants for sound fathering and mentorship but in instances when a man chooses for himself, his ministry or leadership destiny could be fully determined from there. Every mentor is an indication of destiny.
Rephrased – you can only go in ministry or leadership as far as the blessing from your spiritual father carries you.
Abram was not just blessed like, for he was blessed through his father. Shem to Terah and from Terah to him.
In Genesis 11: 31, effective spiritual fatherhood was exemplified. Terah took Abram (his son), Lot and Sarai along on a journey to destiny. And although he (Terah) couldn’t finish the journey with them, he however initiated it.
Spiritual fathers should provide the sons with direction and a "sense of journey" and Terah (one of the descendents of Shem) taught Abram that lesson.
Wrong spiritual mentors will surely limit a man’s effectiveness in ministry.
Therefore, the effectiveness of spiritual mentorship is a lid on anyone’s effectiveness in ministry.
God blesses his servants, but he often uses their spiritual fathers as channels for the blessing.
So, do not despise whom God has given you as a father in life and ministry, and do not adopt a father in ministry, and do not adopt a father for yourself without God’s direction – for you may live to regret your time in ministry.
