PVC Transfer Between States: What Worked for You?

If you moved cities, how did you transfer your voter registration (PVC) successfully? Was it entirely online, or did you visit an INEC center?

Please list the steps you followed, documents requested, and timelines you actually experienced. Any pitfalls others should avoid?

Two working routes: The online portal is cleaner now, but many still complete the process faster by visiting an INEC LGA office with proof of new address. Bring your PVC (if available), passport photo, NIN or any government ID, and utility bill/tenancy evidence. Officers initiate a transfer of polling unit and give you a slip. Expect 2–6 weeks to reflect, depending on the cycle.

Watch-outs: Do not wait until close to elections; transfers pause near critical timelines. If your name has spelling differences across documents, correct it early to avoid a duplicate flag. Keep photocopies of everything and note the officer’s name and date. When the portal shows update, visit your new PU during CVR periods to confirm you are on the register. Community tip: move with your neighbors — bulk requests from a street/estate are processed more consistently than one-off visits.
